They are star-crossed because even though Romeo and Juliet are not supposed to be together because they come from different houses, that have feuded for some time, fate has decided to bring them together. Romeo is compared to the moon and Juliet to the sun. Therefore, since the sun and moon cannot be seen at the same time (even though in reality they can) their love can never exist on earth.
